Background

At 76 hectares Hengrove Park is the largest regeneration site within the city of Bristol. It is owned by the City Council and is strategically located on the South Bristol Ring Road some 4 miles from the City Centre and 8 miles Bristol Airport.  The site is a former airfield which closed in 1957.  Today few remnants of this remain and the site is used mainly as an informal open space by the local communities. A former hanger is home to Action Indoor Sports.

Over the years there have been a number of piecemeal employment and residential development around the edge of the site. Most recently Hengrove Leisure Park, an out of town commercial leisure park, and the children’s play park managed by Bristol City Council.
