South Bristol Community Hospital

The South Bristol Community Hospital was granted planning consent in March 2008.  The construction plans are now being finalised and it is anticipated that building will start by the end of 2009.

The South Bristol Community Hospital will make a significant and lasting contribution to improving the health of people in south Bristol and will be a key development in the major Hengrove regeneration scheme.

What will the hospital provide?

Health services at your community hospital will include:

• A walk-in minor injuries unit and GP out-of-hours service
• Operating theatres for day surgery
• Inpatient beds for stroke and rehabilitation
• Clinics for a range of outpatient appointments
• Diagnostic tests such as X-rays, scans and endoscopies
• Dental services and training for student dentists
• We will also link into leisure facilities planned for the site.

What will the hospital look like?

Senior clinicians and managers, local people and professional estates staff have all been involved in helping to draw up the design of the Hospital.

The Hospital will be on three floors with a total floor area of around 11,000 sq m. The out-patient services, minor injuries unit and diagnostic services are grouped on the ground floor with the wards, rehabilitation space and day theatres on the floors above.

Getting to the hospital

The hospital is well sited for the local population. Community transport, cycle routes, car parking and existing bus routes will be co-ordinated to provide good access.
